Commitment to Safe, Responsible, and Sustainable Port Operations

At MBM Port, safety and environmental responsibility are not just requirements they are integral to our culture and operations. Through strict adherence to national and international standards, continuous training, and investment in safe practices, we strive to protect people, property, and the environment across all terminals.

1. General & Bulk Cargo Terminal

Health & Well-being

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs, with strict entry restrictions for anyone under influence. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas, and handling of hazardous materials complies with IMDG guidelines. Medical emergencies are managed through prompt coordination between the ship, terminal supervisors, Port doctor and local medical services.

Safety Management

Our safety system promotes a proactive safety culture, from risk assessments to preventive actions. Responsibilities are clearly defined across all stakeholders from management and foremen to port workers, contractors, ship crews, and visitors. All personnel must follow safe work systems, use proper PPE, and report any non-compliance.

Fire Safety & Emergency Response

We enforce strict fire safety protocols. trained emergency teams ensure quick, effective response to fire hazards. Repairs, painting, or hot works alongside are strictly regulated and permitted only under controlled conditions.

Environmental Protection

Discharging of sludge, oily bilges, cargo hold residues, or garbage into the sea is strictly prohibited. Waste must be delivered to authorized reception facilities. Any spillage is treated as a serious environmental incident. Dispersants or in situ burning of oil spills are not permitted.

Training & Continuous Improvement

All port personnel receive mandatory induction and regular safety training, including PPE use, hazard awareness, and emergency protocols. MBM Port maintains a structured training program that reflects the specific risks and operational needs of our terminal.

 

2. Oil & Gas Terminal

The Oil & Gas Terminal at MBM Port is designed to meet the highest safety and environmental standards in the industry. Given the flammable and hazardous nature of the cargo, we apply a rigorous risk management approach for all loading/unloading and STS operations.

Fire & Explosion Prevention

We mitigate fire and explosion risks through:

·  Static grounding and non-sparking tools

·  Intrinsically safe electrical systems

·  Emergency shutdown systems and isolation valves

·  Strict hot work permit systems and safety inspections

Response Readiness

Our terminal is equipped with:

· Firefighting tugboats

· Mobile and fixed fire suppression systems (foam, CO₂, dry powder)

· Trained firefighting personnel and certified safety equipment

Handling of Dangerous Goods in General & Bulk Cargo Terminal

Only permitted DG classes may be handled, with Class 1 & 7 allowed under strict conditions. All DG shipments must be declared at least 24 hours in advance. MBM Port applies the Dangerous Goods Management Plan based on IMO standards.

 

General Information & Port-Wide Measures

ISPS Code & Maritime Security

MBM Port complies fully with the ISPS Code, IMO, and SOLAS conventions. Our port facility safety assessments identify and mitigate security threats through:

  • Controlled access to port and vessel areas
  • Security drills, response plans, and threat level adjustments
  • Coordination with authorities, pilots, and emergency response units

Pilotage & Towage

Pilotage and towage are mandatory for all vessels. Only government-licensed pilots are permitted, and coordination with MBM’s Master Department ensures safe navigation at all times.

Environmental Responsibility

MBM Port strictly adheres to MARPOL guidelines for the prevention of marine pollution. We continuously monitor the waters surrounding our docks and are prepared to respond immediately to any spillage incidents. Our environmental response teams and equipment are fully certified and regularly audited to ensure compliance with international standards, applying the most effective procedures for pollution control and mitigation.
